Branson's Tour Guide

Backstage at Branson Country USA (10/17/14)

  By Daniel Eslinger
Once again Grand Country Music Hall was the place to be on Friday night. The cast of Branson Country USA was at it again.

The guest was Mary Lou Turner of Grand Ole Opry fame and she did not disappoint!

Before Mary Lou came out, hosts Mike Patrick and Jim Dandy (Jamie Haage) were up to their usual antics.

Mike was still talking about all of the Grand Country Award wins at this year's Branson Terry Music Awards. (Pictures below)

New South Quartet opened the show musically and sounded as good as ever singing like only they can.  The quartet members may change periodically but the sound stays the same.

Then New South's Mark McCauley was congratulated on his recent trip to Nashville, TN to perform at the Ryman Auditorium alongside long time friend Loretta Lynn for a special duet. The performance was recorded and is set to be broadcast at a later date on PBS.

Mark was then joined on stage by Jackie Brown to give us a glimpse of what happened. Jackie and Mark were both in great voice. I for one wish that they would sing together more often.

There was a lot going on as usual.  In fact another highlight of the evening was when guest Mary Lou Turner invited fellow Wild Bunch members, Velva Cort and Nan Smardon on stage to present Jim Dandy with his official Wild Bunch shirt.

Of course the shirt itself was “Jim Dandy Orange” and adorned with lots of sparkle by Classic Creations by Nan. They mentioned fellow host, Mike Patrick being next on the list.  He will keep you posted on that!

Mary Lou went on to show everyone that she still has what it takes to keep an audience in the palm of her hand. Her rendition of an old Johnny Cash classic (I still Miss Someone) about remembering a love from long ago was extremely well done. She left everyone wanting more and received much applause.

Unfortunately, I was only able to hear a minute or so of Melody Hart's song this week as I was backstage.

However, judging from the clapping and yelling that the folks in the crowd did, she was terrific as always.

Well folks that's the news from my latest visit to Grand Country. I hope to see YOU there soon!  (More pics below)
